Rural Aquaculture Development (RAD) combines specialist knowledge and local connections to reduce poverty and improve food security in Uganda through an innovative approach to fish farming.

RAD is co-run by Tim who relocated from the UK with his family to join Pauson based in Rukungiri and provides fish farming services to reduce poverty and improve food security in Uganda.  We are an early-stage Ugandan business supporting the growth of the local aquaculture sector, via an innovative service delivery model which enables smallholder producers to access aquaculture technologies. RAD is a ‘one stop shop’ for aquaculture producers offering services including a hatchery, supplementary feeding through Black Soldier Fly (BSF), water testing and equipment rental, access to ice, and aquaculture expertise.

During its first year of business, Tim and Pauson have built seven ponds and have begun selling fish into the local community. Providing nutritious fish to local people at a price they can afford improves child nutrition and puts money into the pockets of some of the poorest farmers in the region. We're also helping other farmers sell their fish fresh as we can provide ice, which was previously unavailable in the region.

RAD is registered in Uganda as a Community Based Organisation and operates with the goals and objectives of a social enterprise.  We operate as a business to maximise improvements in financial, social and environmental well-being.
